The Health Fund supports prevention and healthy living efforts in addition to behavioral, mental, and physical health programs in Charlevoix County. The Community Foundation has made many grants in these areas, such as the Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital Foundation "Fit-4-Life Kids" program, which received a grant to teach children about their individual health status and what it means to be healthy, but also how they can implement healthy eating and exercise into their daily lives. Charlevoix County Commission on Aging received support for Senior Project FRESH, a program which both educates low-income seniors about proper nutrition and provides coupons so they can shop at local farmers’ markets to increase daily consumption of fruits and vegetables. The Beaver Island Rural Health Center and other partners received a grant to purchase and install video-conferencing and digital x-ray equipment so that those on the Island could experience improved access to care. The Health Department of Northwest Michigan utilized grant funding to improve walkways and road crossings to create “Safe Routes to School”.
