BASES - to support Charlevoix County adolescents & adults with substance abuse

Amount Funded: $10,000.00

BASES will provide intervention services for adolescents & adults in need of substance abuse services. In addition, support sessions will also be offered to friends and family members helping loved ones struggling with this issue. 

                              

Beaver Island Cultural Arts Association - to purchase acoustical shells for orchestral performances

Amount Funded: $5,000.00

The BI Cultural Arts Assn has moved all large performances to the Community School gym. The gym has more available seating and better accessibility, but poor sound quality. This grant will fund movable acoustical shells to enhance the performance for the orchestra, as well as for the enjoyment of the audience. The total project cost is $13,180.

                              

Beaver Island Music Festival - for an artists prep room, equipment storage floor & stage lighting

Amount Funded: $2,000.00

The Music Festival will improve a 16' x 12' "Green Room" for performing artists to prepare themselves for their on-stage performances during the festival and future events.  A cement floor, equipment storage area, and additional lighting to enhance performances will be added. Volunteer labor will be used.

              

Boyne District Library - for the Boyne Reads program

Amount Funded: $2,500.00

The Boyne Reads program began in 2005. This grant award will provide partial support for the  upcoming community reads session and the book is "Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy" by Karen Abbott. Total project cost is $8,500.00.

 

Camp Daggett - for equipment for the summer camp programs

Amount Funded: $3,000.00

There are three elements to this request, including: the purchase of 20 specialized camping chairs for the wilderness trips; materials to build a new archery target range and a rack to hold bows; and a storage shed to safely store summer camp equipment.

                                                    

Challenge Mountain of Walloon Hills, Inc - to update signage to the lodge in Boyne Falls

Amount Funded: $5,000.00

In 2015, Challenge Mountain completed a marketing plan. The logo & tagline have been re-designed. This grant focuses on three crucial signage needs--new directional signs for the lodge,  delivery truck signage, and signs for the new Resale Store.

                                                         

Charlevoix Area Community Pool - for construction documents and cost estimates for pool renovations

Amount Funded: $10,487.00

The CAC pool was built in 1996 and is in need of structural repairs. This grant will allow the pool to hire an architectural firm to provide construction design documents and estimates to correct deficiencies, add a community room, provide locker room renovations and repair three walls around the pool deck. A capital campaign will follow this study.

              

Charlevoix Public Schools - to purchase sensory materials for the ES

Amount Funded: $2,484.00

With this award, CPS will  purchase classroom sensory materials. The materials will serve as aides for deep sensory stimulation for elementary aged-students (other than those with special needs) who are in need of additional support to become successful.

 

City of Boyne City - to support the SOBO Arts Festival

Amount Funded: $1,500.00

The SOBO Arts Festival 2016 will offer a celebration of art in all its forms.  This year promises to be more interactive, with music, dance, a chalk-out contest, and a walk-about sculpture show. This grant will support all aspects of the festival.

 

City of Charlevoix - to hire a consultant to write a Parks & Recreation Plan

Amount Funded: $5,000.00

The Spicer Group will be hired to develop a Parks and Recreation Plan for the City of Charlevoix. The City will seek public input as well as input from surrounding townships for the Plan. The total project cost is $11,500.00.

 

City of East Jordan - toward 3 entryway signs for the City of EJ

Amount Funded: $23,500.00

This project follows on the heels of the City Master Plan, comprehensive sign inventory, and wayfinding sign design plan. Beginning this spring, the City will remove cluttered and nonconforming signs.  This grant will fund 3 entryway signs located at M-32, M-66 (north) and Ellsworth Road.  The total project cost is $46,000.

 

Create: Community Arts Studio - to "Stock the Studio" with art supplies for after school programming

Amount Funded: $4,000.00

The studio’s first community initiative is to offer after-school programming to children K-5th grades. This grant award will help to “Stock the Studio” with artist-grade supplies for the four- or six-week sessions, and workshops that will be offered throughout the school year.

 

Crooked Tree Arts Council - for the 2017 annual youth Spring Strings concert in Boyne City

Amount Funded: $2,500.00

The CTAC has been awarded support for the Beginning Strings Program, to cover transportation for Beaver Island students, weekly travel for Boyne City students to Petoskey for rehearsal, instructor costs, and expenses for the Annual Spring Strings Concert in Boyne City in May 2017.

 

Crossroads Ecumenical Resale Shop - for a building addition to allow community services in one facility

Amount Funded: $25,000.00

Crossroads Resale Shop and Care & Share Food Pantry are currently operating in cramped conditions. Furniture & other large items with the best profit margins, are inconveniently kept off-site. Worse yet, customers need to travel to other locations to get assistance to pay heat & utility bills. This grant will support construction of an addition, and facilitate bringing four agencies together to provide all inclusive services, with an indoor waiting room for its clients.

 

East Jordan Public Schools - for a golf cart for transport of disabled spectators and deliveries

Amount Funded: $3,750.00

This grant will facilitate the purchase of a golf cart for use on the EJPS athletic fields and at Boswell Stadium. The golf cart will be used to transport disabled spectators to athletic events and ceremonies held at Boswell Stadium.

 

East Jordan Public Schools - to purchase books for the summer reading program

Amount Funded: $2,500.00

This program will allow the purchase of books for students to take home, read, return, and then receive another book for the next week.  It will be delivered by a Title 1 volunteer teacher once a week for 10 weeks this summer,

 

East Jordan Public Schools - for Camp EJ scholarships and field trips

Amount Funded: $7,500.00

Camp EJ offers a supervised and fun summer day care option for children.  Grant dollars will go towards providing scholarships and field trip admission fees.  Camp EJ serves youth ages 5 to 13, about 30 to 40 campers per week, for 8 weeks of the summer.

 

East Jordan Public Schools - for Project Days year-end enrichment programs

Amount Funded: $5,977.00

This grant award for the ES will fund one full week of experiential education called "Project Days".  Students will gain educational experience, and develop interests/talents as they make selections from a course catalog.  Examples include: Gross Science; from Book to Film; Photography & Drama; Colonial Crafts & Games; & Beginning Sailing.

 

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra - to support a 2016 classical music concert in Charlevoix

Amount Funded: $2,000.00

The GLCO will use this grant to support one Baroque music recital at Castle Farms in Charlevoix in November of 2016.  The Sunday Series recital will feature the The Three "Bs":  Bach, Beethoven & Brahms.

                                         

Greensky Hill United Methodist Church - to renovate the historic church built in 1850

Amount Funded: $2,300.00

Greensky Hill Church was built in the 1850's and has regional cultural significance to local Native American tribes.  It was placed on theNational Register of Historic Places in 1972.  This grant award will partially assist the church with a long list of repairs. The total project cost is $78,000. 

 

Hospice of Northwest Michigan - to publish a set of community resource materials

Amount Funded: $500.00

Hospice will publish two resource booklets including: the "Five Wishes" booklet; and the "Guide to Hospice Eligibility" pocket reference booklets for physicians, with this grant award.  These references are customized to the local hospice services and are available to those seeking hospice care, as well as to the general community.

 

Jordan River Arts Council - for a strategic planning process

Amount Funded: $3,000.00

This grant will help enable JRAC to hire a consultant to conduct a strategic planning process. The plan will involve interviewing focus groups, as well as individual interviews to formalize and document a vision for the future .

 

Jordan Valley EMS Authority - to upgrade ambulance stretchers for Jordan Valley EMS

Amount Funded: $7,074.00

The JV EMS Authority is requesting a grant to purchase equipment to update and retrofit four (4) Stryker ambulance stretchers.  The updated stretchers will increase patient safety and comfort.

                                                      

Junior Achievement GL of Michigan - to expand programming and include middle schools

Amount Funded: $2,250.00

Junior Achievement teaches students the basic concepts of business and economics and relevancy in the workplace. This grant will expand programs to additional classes at Boyne City, East Jordan and Charlevoix schools and reach both ES & MS students.

 

Lake Louise Christian Community - to build, train and facilitate a Tree Climbing Adventure program

Amount Funded: $5,500.00

This grant will allow Lake Louise to build an Adventure Tree Climbing program on their 750 acres of forestland, held by the State of MI in a conservation easement, with public access. The program will bring an educational component, along with the fun and adventure to the community.

 

Leadership Charlevoix County - to install three Born Learning Trails in Charlevoix County

Amount Funded: $1,500.00

Born Learning is a public engagement campaign to help parents, caregivers and communities create quality learning opportunities for young children. The trails contain 10 interactive signs with activities for adults to engage in with young children to turn an outdoor trip into a fun learning experience. This is the community project for the class of 2016.

 

Little Traverse Conservancy - for a BioBlitz event to explore nature and biodiversity

Amount Funded: $2,210.00

Grant awards included funding a “BioBlitz” at the Susan Creek Nature Preserve. This is an event held to record as many living species as possible within a designated area. Groups of naturalists, area citizens, families, and students conduct inventories over an established time period. Volunteers are welcome!

 

McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation - for the Chlx County Patient Assistance Fund

Amount Funded: $5,000.00

This grant provides financial assistance to low income Charlevoix County patients at MNM Hospital for "non-reimbursable" expenses. Examples  include: the purchase of medical supplies, minor medical equipment, medications, and travel expenses related to their healthcare. 

 

Munson Healthcare Cx Hospital Foundation - for surgical & laboratory renovations & an operating room addition

Amount Funded: $11,613.00

This award for MHCHF will assist with renovations of the surgical and laboratory services areas at the Charlevoix facility, as well as the addition of an operating room.

                                                              

Northern Community Mediation - to develop a marketing video to be shown in theatres

Amount Funded: $2,384.00

NCM will use this grant to capitalize upon the possibility of promoting their conflict resolution services by advertising in both the Charlevoix  and the Petoskey Cinemas. This grant will help develop the video ads that will run before the featured film in both locations for one year.

 

Northern Lakes Economic Alliance - for the 2016 Spartan Innovations Green Light EJ program

Amount Funded: $5,000.00

This grant will partially fund the 2016 Green Light East Jordan event scheduled for October 12, 2016 at Castle Farms.  It will be very similar to the first event, consisting of 10 finalists pitching their ideas in front of judges, and is open and free to the public audience.  The goal is to spark economic development activities for the East Jordan and Breezeway communities.

 

Northern Michigan Equine Therapy - for an accessible bathroom, classroom and office addition

Amount Funded: $2,866.00

This grant will assist with construction of a heated therapy classroom, barrier-free accessible bathroom, meeting room, viewing room and office addition to the north side of the arena. The project will provide volunteers, therapists, and those in wheelchairs a place where equine therapy can be comfortably provided.

 

Planned Parenthood of W&N MI, Inc. - to provide adult sexual health services with HPV testing

Amount Funded: $8,000.00

This grant will continue support for the Outreach & Testing Sexual Health Project, with the addition of HPV-typing. It will help educate at least 800 at-risk community members between the ages of 18 -44 with information on how to take care of their bodies, prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and unintended pregnancy.

 

Raven Hill Discovery Center - to develop training manual(s) for Raven Hill programs

Amount Funded: $2,500.00

This project called "Behind the Scenes" will produce a prototype training manual to capture current program knowledge in a written format for Raven Hill teaching staff.  Manuals will eventually be written for all areas of Raven Hill's programs, from STEM/STEAM to physical, chemical, life, earth and space sciences, as well as art and history.

 

The Manna Food Project - to support the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program

Amount Funded: $6,125.00

Manna’s “Food 4 Kids” Backpack Program addresses hunger in preschool and elementary school children. The Backpack Program provides shelf-stable, nutritious food for the weekend to children who otherwise may not have enough to eat outside of school hours.

 

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council - for the partnerships for Protection & Restoration of Stover Creek

Amount Funded: $7,000.00

With grant assistance, the Watershed Council will partner with the Belvedere Golf Club to develop a restoration plan to enhance the golf course’s protection efforts of Stover Creek. The project promotes better riparian management of Stover Creek and stormwater management of adjacent lands.

 

Top of Michigan Mountain Biking Association- for a bike and multi-use trail at Avalanche Mountain

Amount Funded: $25,000.00

TOMMBA will build a new bike trail system at Avalanche Preserve, totaling 9.5 miles with this partial grant. Best practices for sustainable trail development and construction will be utilized. A professional trail design team was hired to design the trail, & supervise volunteers to construct the trail. The total project cost is $259,614.00

 

Wilson Township - for the Fall Park Parking Lot improvement project

Amount Funded: $6,000.00

With grant assistance, this project will pave the existing gravel parking lot located at Fall Park on Deer Lake in Wilson Township. ADA accessibility will be improved, as well as existing storm water runoff issues. A new entrance will be constructed, signage will be installed and lighting poles and fixtures will also be added.

 

Women's Resource Center of NM - for a child abuse investigation & response program

Amount Funded: $10,000.00

The new Children’s Advocacy Center at the WRC will provide a coordinated, multi-disciplinary response to cases of child abuse. The center is designed to reduce stress on child abuse victims and improve the effectiveness of the response. This grant will be used to set up the center, help it to become accredited and hire/train an interviewer.
