Charlevoix County Community Foundation Announces Scholarships to Area Grads
This fall, college tuition will be a little easier on the pockets of area families, thanks to scholarships totaling over $120,000 recently awarded through the Charlevoix County Community Foundation. There were over 100 scholarships awarded to area graduates from special funds held by the community foundation. All funds were established by local citizens -- to honor family members, civic leaders and educators. Among the students receiving scholarships are:BEAVER ISLAND
- Caitlin Boyle received the $250 21st Century Learning Scholarship. She will attend Michigan State University and major in animal sciences.
- Maeve Green was awarded the $250 21st Century Learning Scholarship.
BOYNE CITY
- Christian Bersano was awarded the $485 Lee-Tokoly Charitable Educational Trust Scholarship. Christian plans to major in engineering at Michigan Technological University.
- Sarah Gerberding received the $424.38 Lee-Tokoly Charitable Educational Trust Scholarship. She will major in business at Central Michigan University.
- Christian Kirkby received the $500 Boyne Valley Lions Club--Clive and Ruby Vollick Memorial Scholarship. He will attend Michigan Technological University to study business.
- Trevor Kruzel was awarded the $200 Casey and Mark Newville Memorial Scholarship to attend Northern Michigan University.
- Ashley Lockery received the $1,000 Christy Gill Memorial Scholarship. She will attend Michigan State University and study veterinary medicine.
- Meghan Martinez received the $485 Lee-Tokoly Charitable Educational Trust Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College and study biology.
- Lane McCarry received the $485 Lee-Tokoly Charitable Educational Trust Scholarship. Lane will attend Kendall College of Art and Design and major in illustration.
- Ann Purdy was awarded the $485 Lee-Tokoly Charitable Educational Trust Scholarship. She will study psychology at Northwestern Michigan College.
- Ryan Spence received the $503.50 Lee-Tokoly Charitable Educational Trust Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Patrick Welch received the $500 Boyne Valley Lions Club--Clive and Ruby Vollick Memorial Scholarship and the $485 Lee-Tokoly Charitable Educational Trust Scholarship. He plans to attend Grand Valley State University and study accounting.
BOYNE FALLS
- Roslyn Fiel was awarded the $500 Boyne Falls Polish Festival Memorial Scholarship.
- Carlistie Massey was awarded the $500 Boyne Area Car Show Scholarship and the $350 Choice Snyder Family Memorial Scholarship.
- Amber Simon was awarded the $500 Boyne Falls Polish Festival Memorial Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Corey Simon received the $1,000 Joe Schwem Memorial Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
CHARLEVOIX
- Geoffrey Baier received the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship. He will major in political science at the University of Michigan.
- Jessica Bills was awarded the $2,700 Belvedere Scholarship. She will attend Grand Valley State University and study nursing.
- Ben Castiglione received the $1,700 Belvedere Scholarship. He will major in architecture at the University of Detroit Mercy.
- Courtney Chamberlain received the $2,200 Belvedere Scholarship to attend Central Michigan University.
- Megan Cross was awarded the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship. She will attend Northwestern Michigan College and major in nursing.
- Justin Friske received the $1,700 Belvedere Scholarship. He plans to attend Ferris State University and major in nuclear medicine.
- Gena Gaudio received the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship to attend Michigan State University and study communications.
- Marnie Greene was awarded the $500 Charlevoix Lions Club--Don Meggison Scholarship. She plans to attend Central Michigan University and major in special education.
- Michael Heckendorn received the $500 Charlevoix Lions Club--Don Meggison Scholarship. He will attend Anderson University and major in social work.
- Emily Heffling received the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship. She will major in pre-law at Michigan State University.
- Kyle Jones received the $2,800 Belvedere Scholarship. He will attend Ferris State University and major in construction management.
- Raymond Jones received the $2,500 Belvedere Scholarship. He will major in nursing at Mid Michigan Community College.
- Sherryl Kirby received the $1,350 Charlevoix Area Hospital Nursing Scholarship to attend Ferris State University.
- Becca Madison was awarded the $2,500 Belvedere Scholarship to attend Ohio Wesleyan University.
- Stephanie Murray received the $1,000 Belvedere Scholarship. She will attend Northern Michigan University and study art history.
- Julie Neidert received the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship to major in marketing communications at Columbia College Chicago.
- Rachael Nuttall was awarded the $1,500 Belvedere Scholarship. She will attend North Central Michigan College and major in interior design/architecture.
- Robyn Petzak was awarded the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship to study radiography at Mid Michigan Community College.
- Tamara Potter was awarded the $500 Charlevoix Lions Club--Coleman Scholarship and the $2,400 Belvedere Scholarship. She will attend Alma College and major in education.
- Teresa Potter received the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship. She will major in athletic training at Saginaw Valley State University.
- Ariel Ramsey was awarded the $2,500 Belvedere Scholarship. She will major in nursing at North Central Michigan College.
- Madison Ramsey received the $1,000 Belvedere Scholarship. She will attend Grand Rapids Community College and study landscape architecture.
- Charisse Rogers was awarded the $1,600 Belvedere Scholarship to attend Central Michigan University.
- T. Robert Rundblad received the $1,400 Belvedere Scholarship to attend Central Michigan University.
- Kyle Smith received the $2,000 Belvedere Scholarship. He will major in accounting at Grand Valley State University.
- Ellise Smolenyak was awarded the $1,300 Earl Miller Opportunity Scholarship. She will major in illustration at the College for Creative Studies.
- JD Speigl received the $2,500 Belvedere Scholarship. He will attend North Central Michigan College and study science/chiropractic medicine.
- Caitlin Taylor received the $850 Elizabeth Griffin Herman Scholarship. She will study landscape architecture at Michigan State University.
- Brock Yenglin received the $500 Charlevoix Lions Club--Coleman Scholarship. He will study in the pre-dental program at Grand Valley State University.
EAST JORDAN
- Jose Ambrosio was awarded the $2,000 East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship. He will attend North Central Michigan College and major in accounting.
- Emily Bajko was awarded the $1,200 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship.
- Gloria Barnum received, the $700 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship. She will attend North Central College and major in biology.
- Clint Blake received the $500 David Burch Scholarship. He will major in education at North Central Michigan College.
- Damaris Blatt received the $1,000 East Jordan Rotary Club--Bryce Vance Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Andrew Boyer was awarded the $1,000 Jeremy and Nicholas Bingham Memorial Scholarship. He will attend North Central Michigan College and major in environmental science.
- James Brown was awarded the $500 Larry Gee Memorial Scholarship, $3,000 East Jordan Rotary Club—William Malpass Scholarship, and $300 Miss East Jordan Ambassador Scholarship. He will attend the University of Michigan and major in engineering.
- Michael Cardwell received the $700 Norman and Genevieve Bartlett Scholarship, $1,000 East Jordan Rotary Club Scholarship, $300 Miss East Jordan Ambassador Scholarship, and $750 Walter and Norma Thorsen Scholarship. He will attend Michigan Technological University and major in engineering.
- Andrea Chew received the $1,000 Marion Gardner Brooks Memorial Scholarship, and $2,500 Kenneth Diller Memorial Scholarship. She will attend Alma College and major in education.
- Hailey Crick received the $1,000 Jeremy and Nicholas Bingham Memorial Scholarship, and $400 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship. She will study architecture at Central Michigan University.
- Kimberly Elzinga received the $400 Bob Snyder Memorial Scholarship. She will attend North Central Michigan College and major in business and teaching.
- Beau Fuller was awarded the $300 Eary/Conrad Family Memorial Scholarship, and $500 Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship. He will study automotive technology at Northwestern Michigan College.
- QuinciAnne Fuller received the $1,500 East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship. She will attend Northwestern Michigan College and study veterinary science.
- Glen Gee was awarded the $2,000 East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College and major in computer aided drafting.
- Meagan Germaine was awarded the $400 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship. She will major in English at Michigan State University.
- Cliff Graham received the $1,000 East Jordan Rotary Club—William Porter Scholarship. He will study heavy equipment technology at Ferris State University.
- Jordan Hagen received the $2,500 East Jordan Rotary Club—Marjorie Smith Scholarship. He will major in engineering at Michigan Technological University.
- Abigail Hawley received the $1,500 East Jordan Rotary Club—Howard Porter Scholarship, and $400 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship. She will attend the University of Michigan and study pre-medicine.
- Joe Hidakatsu received the $900 Alice Garlock Memorial Scholarship, $2,000 East Jordan Rotary Club—William T. Mathews Scholarship, $700 Leatha Larsen Memorial Scholarship, $500 Shepard Family Scholarship, and the $500 Teddy Slough Memorial Music Scholarship. He will major in engineering at the University of Michigan.
- Samantha Higdon was awarded the $500 East Jordan Garden Club Scholarship, and $900 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship. She will major in environmental science at Michigan Technological University.
- Melanie Hillaker received the $4,000 East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship. She will attend Ferris State University and major in dental hygiene.
- Seth Kishefsky received the $3,000 East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship. He will attend Delta College and study management/finance.
- Chelsie Kritz was awarded the $400 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship. She will study education at Northwestern Michigan College.
- Brittani McCully was awarded the $400 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship and $500 Muriel and Bill Zoulek Memorial Scholarship. She will attend Kirtland Community College and major in nursing.
- Ashley Mosley received the $500 R. Loren and Kay Hughes Scholarship. She will study business at North Central Michigan College.
- Kayla Mousseau received the $1,200 Becky Bos Memorial Scholarship. She will major in interior design at Kendall College.
- Alyssa Piechocki was awarded the $400 Miss East Jordan Pageant Scholarship to attend Northwestern Michigan College.
- Nicole Richards was awarded the $500 Joan Swanson Burch Scholarship. She will attend North Central Michigan College and study culinary arts.
- Alexandra Snowden was awarded the $300 Eary/Conrad Family Memorial Scholarship, and $500 Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship. She will study culinary arts at Grand Rapids Community College.
OTHER
- Kathleen Biddle received the $1,400 Edna Brown Nursing Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Ronald Bunker was awarded the $1,000 Edna Brown Nursing Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Jodi Cannon received the $1,200 Edna Brown Nursing Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Kathy Johnson-Herbert was awarded the $3,000 Edna Brown Nursing Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Oksana Marchenko was awarded the $3,000 Edna Brown Nursing Scholarship to attend North Central Michigan College.
- Grant Oliver received the $500 Teddy Slough Memorial Music Scholarship. He will study at the Great Lakes Boat Building School.
- Eeva Stout Sharp received the $750 Kristen Cleary Memorial Scholarship. She will study pre-law at Kalamazoo College.
The Charlevoix County Community Foundation now holds 224 different funds, 67 of which are designated for scholarships. Established by local citizens in 1992, the community foundation serves as a charitable resource for the entire county, and has distributed grants and scholarships totaling over $11.6 million to benefit residents of this area.
