Charlevoix County Community Foundation Announces $555,075 in Grant Awards

East Jordan --   Recent grants fromthe Charlevoix County Community Foundation are helping support a variety of worthy projects in our area—from the purchase of adaptive ski equipment for special needs youth, to construction of a senior housing development on Beaver Island.

The new awards bring the community foundation’s grantmaking total to almost $12 million in its 17-year history.  Programs chosen for foundation support and the amounts of their grants are:

From the Adams Fund
$259 - To the Beaver Island Community Development Co. towards construction of the senior housing development

From the Beaver Island Enrichment Fund
$321 - To the Beaver Island Community Development Co. towards construction of the senior housing development

From the Boswell Stadium Endowment Fund
$7,000 - For maintenance activities at Boswell Stadium

From the Bellaire Public Schools Greatest Educational Needs Fund
$365 - To the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association for the journalism yearbook workshop

From the Charlevoix Area Humane Society Fund
$15,000 - Towards an agency feasibility study

From the Charlevoix County Community Fund
$3,578 - To the Beaver Island Community Development Co. towards construction of the senior housing development
$2,000 - To Char-Em United Way for the 211 human resources hotline
$1,210 - To Good Samaritan Family Services to provide home heating fuel and utility payment assistance
$1,000 - To Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra to sponsor concerts in Charlevoix and Beaver Island
$1,000 - To Northern Homes CDC towards the mortgage foreclosure counseling program
$5,800 - To Northern Lakes Economic Alliance to continue the entrepreneurial/business incubator program
$1,500 - To Northwest MI Community Action Agency to sponsor an IDA account for a Charlevoix County resident
$1,800 - To Raven Hill Discovery Center for the second Saturday science program

From the Charlevoix Women's Basketball Scholarship Fund
$505 - For costs associated with the Charlevoix Middle School girls' summer basketball camp

From the Ethel W. Coeling Fund
$2,000 - To the Charlevoix Public Library for three outdoor instruments for the children's garden

From the East Jordan Enrichment Fund
$4,000 - To the East Jordan Ambulance Association for an automatic CPR system and electronic lift cot
$2,500 - To the East Jordan Ecumenical Ministerial Association to provide supplemental home heating assistance
$1,790 - To Good Samaritan Family Services to provide home heating fuel and utility payment assistance

From the East Jordan Industrial Development Fund
$2,000 - To Northern Lakes Economic Alliance to continue the entrepreneurial/business incubator program

From the Ethel Coeling Environmental Fund
$2,000 - To MSU Extension, Charlevoix County for scholarships to the citizen planner program
$2,000 - To the Top of Michigan Trails Council to design multipurpose signage along the bike path

From the Fuller Road Fund
$1,000 - To Raven Hill Discovery Center for general operations

From the Healthy Youth & Seniors Fund
$842 - To the Beaver Island Community Development Co. towards construction of the senior housing development
$1,558 - To Planned Parenthood of W&N MI to provide sexuality education to students

From the Lake Charlevoix Watershed Fund
$4,615 - To the City of Charlevoix for a model storm water filtration system on the Pine River Channel

From the Phyllis Malpass Medical Needs Fund
$810 - For East Jordan Public Schools student healthcare needs

From the SOAR Fund
$1,004 - To Raven Hill Discovery Center for program related reimbursements

From the Stowe Family Fund
$2,100 - To Grandvue Medical Care Facility to purchase a TV for the Horizon B Alzheimer's Unit

From the Urgent Needs Fund
$5,000 - To Northwest MI Community Action Agency for utility, mortgage, rental assistance & other urgent human service needs
$5,000 - To the Charlevoix Community Food Pantry for urgent needs including food, personal hygiene items, & diapers
$5,000 - To East Jordan Care & Share Food Pantry for urgent needs including food, personal hygiene items, & diapers
$5,000 - To Boyne City SDA Community Service Center for urgent needs including food, personal hygiene items, & diapers
$3,500 - To Beaver Island Christian Church & Food Pantry for urgent needs including food, personal hygiene items, & diapers

From the Heather Woods Memorial Fund
$1,973 - To the Charlevoix Children’s House to provide scholarships for children to attend preschool

From the Youth Fund
$1,620 - To Big Brothers Big Sisters of NW MI to expand mentor-youth matches in Charlevoix County
$2,150 - To Challenge Mountain of Walloon Hills to purchase ski equipment for adaptive recreation
$750 - To Jordan River Arts Council for the Black, White, and Red All Over youth art project and exhibit
$1,000 - To the Little Traverse Conservancy to purchase snowshoes for winter education programs
$1,000 - To Northern Community Mediation to expand the victim offender reconciliation program
$1,500 - To Planned Parenthood of W&N MI to provide sexuality education to students
$2,000 - To Raven Hill Discovery Center for the second Saturday science program

From Donor Advised Funds
$450,025 - To a host of nonprofit organizations and charitable initiatives, in accordance with the wishes of those who established a donor advised fund and help direct their own grantmaking

A charitable organization dedicated to improving and enriching life in the area, the Charlevoix County Community Foundation accepts gifts from individuals, families, businesses, and organizations and manages them as permanent endowments.  Every year, a portion of the endowment’s investment income is used to support programs in education, the environment, the arts, human services, health and wellness, youth activities, community development, and various civic projects.
