Camp McSauba Receives Chicago Club Fund Support

Camp McSauba, a summer day camp operated by the City of Charlevoix, is rocking again this summer, with generous support from the Chicago Club.  Utilizing a fund established at the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, the members of the Chicago Club have a long history of supporting projects to benefit Charlevoix’s young people.  “The Chicago Club Fund grant will allow thirty-one campers to enjoy a week at camp. It may be their favorite summer experience,” noted Maureen Radke, Program Officer at the Community Foundation.

Daily activities include small and large group games, arts and crafts, bb gunnery, archery and field sports.  Each day wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Lake Michigan beach.  Camp sessions run five days per week, with an awards ceremony for campers, parents, grandparents and friends each Friday morning.  “Camp McSauba is a beloved treasure for the children and families of Charlevoix.  The support that we receive from the Chicago Club has an immediate impact on our community.  Children that otherwise would not be able to attend camp are able to experience the wonders of the day camp experience,” said Kent Knorr, City of Charlevoix Recreation Director.

The Chicago Club Fund at the Community Foundation has also supported a wide variety of civic enrichment activities over the years. Examples include:  children’s art programs at Charlevoix Circle of Arts; the “Raydernators” Robotics and Model United Nations programs at Charlevoix Public Schools; and many more.  “The boost provided by the Chicago Club Fund can be seen and felt everywhere in the Charlevoix area, by residents and visitors alike,” added Radke.

The Chicago Club was established in 1880, and today many of the original families continue to maintain cottages in the Association. Although most members are summer residents of Charlevoix, the Chicago Club has a long history of generously supporting local causes.  “The Chicago Club supports many worthwhile programs and projects in the Charlevoix community,” explained Chip Hansen, President of the Community Foundation, adding, “we’re fortunate to partner with the Chicago Club to meet so many needs and to provide so many opportunities, especially those that impact children in a positive way.”

The Charlevoix County Community Foundation holds many funds for the purpose of moving our community forward for a brighter future.  The Community Fund provides flexible support for all of Charlevoix County, while other funds are designated to support arts and culture, the environment, health, urgent needs, and youth, along with funds for Beaver Island, Boyne City, Charlevoix, and East Jordan.  Additional funds offer tools for donors to make a difference through the Community Foundation.
