Leaving A Legacy Through Your Will

LEAVING A LEGACY THROUGH YOUR WILL

Future gifts through estate plans are a simple and popular method for supporting the causes you care about through the Community Foundation. A charitable bequest can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or what remains after other bequests — including those to family members — are made. You may need the Community Foundation's tax identification number: 38-3033739.  Including the Community Foundation in your will or trust can be accomplished with some standard language.

With a specific bequest, you designate that the Charlevoix County Community Foundation is to receive a specific dollar amount or specific property.

“I give to the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, East Jordan, Michigan, a Michigan nonprofit corporation, (specific dollar amount or specific property) to be held, administered and used by its Board of Trustees for support of its grant-making and programming in the areas of greatest need and opportunity.”

With a residuary bequest, you give the Charlevoix County Community Foundation all (or a portion) of your property, after all debts, taxes, expenses, and all other bequests (including family members) have been paid.

“I give to the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, East Jordan, Michigan, a Michigan nonprofit corporation, (all/%) of the remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be held, administered and used by its Board of Trustees for support of its grant-making and programming in the areas of greatest need and opportunity.”

With a contingent bequest, you can be sure that property will pass on to the Charlevoix County Community Foundation in the event of an unexpected occurrence rather than unintended beneficiaries.

If, at any time, there is no one to take under the other provisions of this Will, I give the propertyor funds to the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, East Jordan, Michigan, a Michigan nonprofit corporation, to be held, administered and used by its Board of Trustees for support of its grant-making and programming in the areas of greatest need and opportunity.”

The Community Foundation can work with you to determine how your future gift can best meet your charitable goals by completing a “Designation of Proceeds from an Estate Gift” form.  This form can be changed at any time by communicating with the Community Foundation and does not require changes to your will or trust. Learn more about the Legacy Society, which recognizes and thanks those who have included the Community Foundation in their estate plans.
