About Our Grants

September 2019

The Community Foundation will host three informational meetings for non-profits in late 2019 and early 2020.

These informational sessions will consist of a brief presentation by C3F staff about the new grant cycles in general, and then will be mostly driven by questions from our non-profit partners.

If you are writing a grant for your organization this year or if you have an idea about a grant, even if you've been submitting grants for years with C3F, we encourage you to attend one of these sessions to learn about the changes and get your questions answered.

August 2019

Because of donors who have supported their charitable priorities through the Community Foundation for more than 25 years, the organization is strong and stable and ready to evolve to meet our community’s changing needs. In recent years, trustees, staff, and trusted friends have carefully reviewed and revised the Community Grant-making Program, which makes grants from endowments that can be broadly applied to make a difference in Charlevoix County. In 2020, Community Foundation staff will begin a new approach to Community Grant-making that we expect will: provide improved impact over time, especially in the areas of youth and the environment; remain accessible to nonprofit partners; offer greater opportunity for donor advisors and community members to give back close to home; and create space for staff to spend more time learning alongside nonprofit partners and sharing that learning for coordinated action in Charlevoix County. Specific changes will include spreading out deadlines for different focus areas, providing an opportunity for nonprofit partners to share brief descriptions of ongoing program needs and shorter-term project needs, and engaging with local schools more intentionally.

Below is an outline of our 2020 grant focus areas and new grant cycle deadlines that will become active in 2020. More information will be posted here as it becomes available. We will also be communicating information directly to our non-profit partners via electronic, print, and in-person means.
