August is Make A Will Month

Believe it or not, I can be a procrastinator. I love dreaming up big, creative ideas, but sometimes, if left to my own devices, I struggle with the "getting it all done" part. Fortunately, I know I'm in good company. Many of us put off important tasks, especially those that seem difficult or far off in the future.

That's why reminders like National Make-A-Will Month in August can be so valuable. If I had to guess, creating a will is one of the most commonly postponed tasks of all. But it's also one of the most important.

Last year, I decided it was time to stop putting it off and create my will. As a single woman with no children, I chose to leave the majority of my assets to charitable causes, and C3F became an important partner in helping me achieve that goal. I wanted to ensure I could continue supporting arts and culture programs, as well as environmental conservation efforts, in the beautiful place where I was born and raised.

The process was surprisingly simple. I included C3F in my will and then met with staff to discuss how I wanted my future gift designated. Once my wishes were documented and signed, I felt an incredible sense of relief. I knew that, when the time comes, C3F will ensure those funds are put to work exactly as I intended, creating a lasting impact for generations to come.

The largest gifts I will ever make are the ones I've planned through my will. While I won't be here to celebrate them in the future, I can celebrate them today as a member of the C3F Legacy Society. Each August, Legacy Society members gather to spend time together and celebrate the difference we're making in our community.

After all, what's more rewarding than knowing you'll help make a lasting difference right here at home?
