Charlevoix Township Lake Michigan Access at Charlevoix Park
With the support of a recent Geographic Enrichment grant, Charlevoix Township contracted with Performance Engineering firm of Charlevoix to undergo an initial boundary and topographical survey and environmental review of the Lake Michigan access site at Charlevoix Park. The purpose of the study was to determine if and how the public access to the lake could be improved and made more accessible for everyone. The study has been completed, and the township continues to explore designs for stairs and a ramp, plus viewing decks. They have also been able to leverage the ongoing engineering study and a preliminary description of the proposed construction project to apply for two state grants through the MI DNR Trust Fund and the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Coastal Management program. We wish them luck with the next phase of funding requests and we share their excitement and hope for the future direction of this ongoing project!
