Nonprofit Resources

We love partnering with nonprofits serving Charlevoix County and working to improve the quality of life for all who live, work, and play here. To the extent possible, we also try to connect nonprofit organizations with useful resources and programs to strengthen their ability to meet their missions and continue to do good work in our area.

LEADERSHIP LEARNING LAB

The Leadership Learning Lab is a 10-month program, running from August to June each year, that combines monthly learning sessions, Q/A sessions, small group learning pods, individual reflection, and ongoing support. The program invests directly in leaders as a way to strengthen their organizations and the communities they serve.

C3F partners with other foundations such as the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation to sponsor the program, keeping tuition affordable for nonprofit leaders.

The program typically accepts applications from about mid-April to sometime in June. Watch for details in the spring.

CAPACITY ADVISORY POOL

The Capacity Advisory Pool is a diverse network of experts who offer strategic guidance, mentorship, and recommendations, along with tools and resources to help you address your organization's challenges and growth. Through the Capacity Advisory Pool, nonprofits can access the knowledge and support needed to enhance their capacity, amplify their impact, and create lasting change, at no cost to the organization. Rotary Charities coaches offer guidance on topics like board governance, fund development, storytelling/marketing, managing personnel/staff, and much more. This opportunity is already available to anyone who has graduated from the Leadership Learning Lab program, but starting now, the opportunity is open to any organization serving Charlevoix County as well. Contact Ashley Cousens at acousens@c3f.org to learn more about how to connect with a CAP coach for up to 5 free hours of coaching support this year.

LEADERSHIP CHARLEVOIX COUNTY

Leadership Charlevoix County is a 9-month program that provides an overview of Charlevoix County; "a taste" of the community in which participants live, work and play. Monthly sessions are immersive community outings, mixed with classroom work, highlighting opportunities, strengths, and challenges in Charlevoix County. Additionally, participants must complete a Community Service Project, working together as a team to identify a need in Charlevoix County and execute the project to completion.

The program accepts applications each summer from May 1 to July 1.

CERTIFICATE IN FUND RAISING MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

Through Indiana University’s Lilly School of Philanthropy, and with a generous grant from the Herrick Foundation, the Charlevoix County Community Foundation and the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation partnered to host the Certificate in Fund Raising Management (CFRM) program in Northern Michigan in 2025.

Four courses were spread out from February to September and hosted in the Petoskey area, with IU faculty commuting in to teach sessions on Principles of Fundraising, Campaigns, Annual Sustainability, and Major Gifts. The 40 participants represent organizations serving a variety of needs in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties.
