Jack and Danielle Poindexter
When asked what they love most about this area, Jack replies “What’s not to love?” Jack and Danielle Poindexter have years of experience on which to base that assessment: Danielle is originally from East Jordan and Jack moved to the area in 1999. Having lived here for many years, they have come to enjoy “little bits of everything”, Jack says. They like to boat, kayak, and fish, camp a couple of times every summer, and have just recently tried bicycling together. “Like a lot of other people, we’re trying to be more active – together,” explains Danielle. “We’re fortunate to live where we do because all of these activities are available!”
Right now Jack and Danielle are working to include their nine children (Jack has five daughters and Danielle has three daughters and a son) in their local philanthropy through a donor advised fund. “If we can help our community continue to improve and grow the quality of life for folks here in some small way, we want to do that,” notes Jack. “We’ve been very blessed in so many ways, and giving back is one way we can share those blessings,” Danielle adds.
The Poindexters have provided for the continued philanthropy of their children in their estate plan plus a gift to the Community Fund. “The Community Foundation serves as a good steward for people’s charitable gifts,” says Jack, who has been a trustee and member of the executive committee. “We like that the Community Foundation is diverse in its community support – there are many different types of organizations doing different types of work to improve Charlevoix County. That’s why we felt it was important to give to the Community Fund, which has the greatest flexibility to provide for whatever our community needs in the future.” With support from generous people like Jack and Danielle, the Community Fund can do just that.
