Jim and Evelyn Howell

A professional opportunity led Jim and Evelyn Howell to Boyne City more than 35 years ago when Jim accepted a position as a bank branch manager and Evelyn found work as an occupational therapist with Northern Michigan Regional Hospital. The couple fell in love with the place: it’s water, land, forests, wildlife, and small-town feel.  “There is a great sense of community here,” notes Evelyn.

Beginning early on, Jim and Evelyn have consistently served on boards and committees, volunteered with local projects, participated in service clubs, and given to causes they care about most. Jim and Evelyn are as involved as ever in retirement: both serve in positions that support the local township government, Evelyn is a Community Foundation trustee, and Jim is active with Boyne City Rotary.

When asked to describe why they give through the Community Foundation, Jim, a past trustee, says, “’For Good. For Ever.’  It’s a simple tagline, but encompasses our belief that it’s our chance to make a permanent difference in the future of Charlevoix County and Boyne City.  The Charlevoix County Community Foundation is the conduit to make that happen.”
