Scholarships

Investing in our youth is a long-standing value of the Community Foundation, and by supporting students pursuing higher education, we continue youth development beyond high school—making the future brighter for hundreds of young adults. Thanks to generous donors, in the last 25 years, C3F has awarded over $5 million dollars in scholarship awards.

The Community Foundation is working towards larger, renewable awards to provide financial support over multiple years to help students reach degree attainment. One way we ensure meaningful financial support is by pooling together available dollars from individual named endowments collaboratively. The Collaborative Scholarship Endowments offer an academic and career training and skills education path for meaningful financial support.

Collaborative Academic Scholarship Endowments

These are special scholarships where dollars from the individual named endowments are pooled together for a specific geographic high school.  By awarding scholarships from multiple endowments collaboratively, students can receive more meaningful financial support over multiple years. When multiple funds join together, it allows for larger awards for students than each individual fund could do on its own.

Collaborative Career Training & Skills Education Endowments

These scholarship funds support the unique financial needs of students pursuing skill-oriented pathways. Students seeking vocational paths often enroll in private or for-profit training programs or enter the workforce, presenting unique financial needs. These skills-oriented pathways demand financial assistance that extends beyond traditional tuition costs and may involve expenses incompatible with IRS regulations. Through partnership with Networks Northwest and Northwest Michigan Works! the Community Foundation can support students who are attending for-profit training programs or who need equipment to get started in their careers.

Donor Directed Scholarship Funds

Donor Directed Scholarship Funds can indicate broad areas of preferences in some of the categories defined by the C3F. Preferences will be used to guide student eligibility and selection for an award. Broad preferences yield more applicants and consistent distribution of a scholarship.
