Youth Advisory Committee

Youth Philanthropy

The Youth Advisory Committee, also known as the YAC, is a group of 16 high school students from throughout Charlevoix County who oversee grantmaking to causes that serve area youth. The YAC meets about once a month to share their perspectives on local issues, set grantmaking priorities, advocate for youth needs, engage in community service with local nonprofit organizations, and put philanthropy into action. This is a training ground for philanthropic leaders, and an excellent place to learn the power of sharing their time, talent, and treasure.

Over the last 30 years, the Charlevoix County Community Foundation YAC has awarded more than $1 million in grants to benefit this area's children, teens, and families.  That's the power of endowment!

Youth Needs Assessment

An important part of the grantmaking process is knowing the collective concerns of the age group that the YAC is representing. This is measured through a needs assessment survey that is conducted every three years and distributed by the YAC to the local school districts.

The latest needs assessment was offered to 7th through 12th graders in Spring 2025 and the results of this survey will be available in Fall of 2025.
